Onion Vine '08
This image is a scan of a scanned image so the quality isn't very good. I painted this while I was working on a cattle station in far North Queensland. This painting was a trial for another painting (50cm x 60cm) of Onion Vine that I am currently working on.
This particular plant grows after the wet season and only lasts in it's green stage for about 2 months, once the land starts to dry out the plant dies and is preserved as a crisp golden vine that is scattered across the ground. If there is no rain through the winter months this vine will remain through till the next wet season. When the plant is green it looks just like an ordinary vine, it is not until it dies that it turns the beautiful golden colour and shrivels into intricate shapes.
