- Further Information
Rita-Anne Piquet, has been developing her artistic career through various genres of painting from abstraction to landscape and people. In 2008, in conjunction with embarking on a series of oil paintings of flowers and plants, she began to study botanical art to better understand her subject. The work she creates translates oil paintings into the contemporary botanical theme.
Rita-Anne's work has been published on the covers of a New Anthology of Canadian Literature, (Oxford University Press), The Canadian Treasurer magazine and the Canadian Journal of Women's Health Care. In 2004 she was Artist-in-Residence at the Masterworks Foundation in Bermuda. She was awarded 3rd Prize at the 2009 Juried Exhibition of the Society of Canadian Artists and the HSBC Award of Excellence at Plein Air Canada's 2007 Exhibition. She has received grants from both the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. She is a member of the Society of Canadian Artists and the Botanical Artists of Canada (www.botanicalartistsofcanada.org).
The botanical work and her current series of paintings attest to an affirmation of life, both in its strength and fragility.
